Capcom’s next mainline survival horror entry is almost here. Resident Evil Requiem (also known as RE9) launches on February 27, 2026 across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2 — making it the first Resident Evil title available on Nintendo’s new hardware at launch.
Deluxe Edition owners get 48-hour early access starting February 25, and pre-loads are live now for all digital pre-orders. Here’s everything you need to know before diving in.
Dual Protagonists: Grace Ashcroft and Leon Kennedy
Requiem features two playable characters whose stories interweave throughout the campaign. Grace Ashcroft, an FBI analyst, is a brand-new addition to the Resident Evil universe. Alongside her is series veteran Leon S. Kennedy, returning as a DSO agent. Director Koshi Nakanishi has confirmed the gameplay is “almost equally split” between the two, structured similarly to Resident Evil Revelations.
The tonal contrast between them is deliberate. Grace’s sections lean into psychological, resource-limited survival horror — she experiences the game’s most disturbing moments. Leon’s sections are high-intensity tactical action featuring his signature combat style, complete with chainsaw fatalities and axe combat.
First-Person and Third-Person — Your Choice
One of Requiem’s standout features is its perspective system. First-person is the default for Grace, while third-person is the default for Leon. However, players can swap between perspectives at any time during gameplay. Capcom describes first-person as delivering “tense, realistic gameplay” and third-person as “ideal for action-packed gameplay.”
This flexibility means you can play the entire game in either perspective if you prefer — a first for the series.

File Size and Pre-Load
Requiem is the largest download in Resident Evil history. The PS5 version weighs in at 72.88 GB, surpassing RE4 Remake’s 67 GB. Xbox Series X|S is slightly smaller at roughly 68.5 GB. Pre-loads went live on February 25 for all platforms.
If you’re running low on storage, now’s the time to clear some space — this one’s a big download.
What’s at Stake
Requiem arrives at an interesting time for the franchise. After the massive success of the RE4 Remake and the polarizing reception of RE Village’s DLC, fans are eager to see where Capcom takes the series next. The dual-protagonist structure, flexible camera system, and day-one Switch 2 support all signal that Capcom is swinging big with this one.

What Makes Resident Evil Requiem Different
Resident Evil Requiem marks a significant shift for the franchise. Capcom has doubled down on the survival horror roots that made the series iconic, stripping away much of the action-heavy combat that defined later entries. The game takes place in a new location that blends classic RE mansion-style exploration with modern open-ended level design.
Early previews praised the atmosphere, puzzle design, and a return to genuine tension. Ammo scarcity is real this time around, and enemies hit hard enough that avoidance is often the smarter play. The RE Engine continues to deliver some of the best-looking environments in gaming, and the audio design creates a constant sense of unease.
For returning fans, Requiem connects to the broader RE timeline while standing on its own. New players can jump in without needing to play previous entries, though there are plenty of callbacks and easter eggs for longtime fans to discover.
Which Edition Should You Buy?
The Standard Edition includes the base game. The Deluxe Edition adds a bonus weapon pack, alternate costumes, and early access to a future DLC chapter. If you are a die-hard RE fan, the Deluxe is worth the extra $10. Otherwise, the Standard Edition gives you the full experience with nothing essential locked behind the upgrade.
