After two delays and years of speculation, Grand Theft Auto VI has a firm release date: November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick reaffirmed the date during the company’s February 2026 earnings call, projecting “record levels of net bookings” for the fiscal year driven by GTA 6.
Here’s everything new we know heading into 2026’s biggest launch.
The Delay History
GTA 6 has been pushed back twice:
- Originally: Fall 2025 — announced alongside the first trailer in December 2023
- First delay: May 26, 2026 — Rockstar stated they needed more time to deliver the expected level of polish
- Second delay: November 19, 2026 — the current and, Rockstar insists, final date
Rockstar stated the additional months would allow them to “finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect.” Given the studio’s track record, few fans are complaining.
Summer Marketing Campaign Confirmed
Zelnick confirmed to IGN that GTA 6’s launch marketing will begin in Summer 2026. In an uncharacteristically forward statement, Zelnick said: “You know me pretty well, for me to even say we’ve got marketing beats coming this summer, is a huge departure from what I usually say.”
Industry insiders predict August 2026 as the likely window for Trailer 3 and gameplay reveals, followed by special edition announcements and pre-order openings. Pre-orders are not live yet but are expected between July and September.
No PC at Launch
GTA 6 is launching on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. A PC version has not been officially announced, but based on Rockstar’s historical pattern — GTA V hit PC roughly 1.5 years after consoles, RDR2 about a year later — the industry expectation is late 2027 to 2028. No Generative AI
One detail that’s flown under the radar: Rockstar has confirmed that GTA 6 will be fully “street by street” handcrafted with no generative AI used in development. In an industry increasingly embracing AI tools, Rockstar is going fully manual.
What’s Next
With the date locked and marketing ramping up this summer, the next few months will be all about the buildup. Physical copies are confirmed to be available at launch, and pricing is expected at $69.99-$79.99 for the Standard Edition, with premium editions likely exceeding $100.

What the November Date Means for the Industry
A November 2026 release puts GTA 6 directly in the holiday shopping season, the most profitable window for game launches. This is the same strategy Rockstar used with Red Dead Redemption 2, and it guarantees maximum visibility and sales. Competing publishers will likely avoid releasing major titles in the same window, reshaping the entire fall 2026 release calendar.
The confirmation also gives PC players a rough timeline. Historically, Rockstar releases PC versions 6-12 months after console launches. A November 2026 console release suggests a PC port sometime between mid-2027 and early 2028. Rockstar has not commented on PC timing, but the pattern is well-established at this point.
Pre-Order Expectations
With the release date locked in, pre-orders are expected to open within weeks. Rockstar typically announces editions (Standard, Special, and Ultimate) alongside pre-order availability. Based on industry trends, expect a $70 base price with premium editions ranging from $90 to $150. Digital pre-orders will likely include exclusive in-game bonuses for GTA Online, following the same model as GTA V and RDR2. Physical collector editions with bonus items are also expected but will be limited in availability.
