Resident Evil Requiem on PS5 should run smoothly for most players — the RE Engine is well-optimized for Sony’s hardware. But like any major launch, some players will encounter crashes, error codes, and freezes. This guide covers every known PS5 error and how to fix it.

CE-108255-1: Game Crash / Application Error
This is the most common PS5 error code and simply means the game has crashed to the dashboard. It is a generic application error, not a specific RE Requiem bug. Here is how to fix it:
Quick Fixes
- Restart your PS5 completely. Do not use Rest Mode — perform a full shutdown by holding the power button or going to Settings > System > Restart PS5. Rest Mode can cause memory issues that trigger CE-108255-1.
- Check for game updates. Go to the RE Requiem icon on the home screen, press Options, and select Check for Update. Day-one patches often fix launch crashes.
- Check for PS5 system updates. Go to Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings. Always run the latest firmware.
- Close other games and apps. The PS5 can run one game at a time in the foreground, but background apps (media players, browsers) consume memory. Close everything from the home screen by pressing Options on each app and selecting Close Game/App.
Advanced Fixes
- Rebuild the PS5 database. Turn off your PS5 completely. Hold the power button until you hear a second beep (about 7 seconds) to enter Safe Mode. Select Option 5: Rebuild Database. This reorganizes your storage and fixes corrupted data without deleting games.
- Clear the PS5 cache. Turn off your PS5 completely. Unplug the power cable for 30 seconds. Plug it back in and turn on. This clears the system cache, which can resolve persistent crashes.
- Reinstall the game. Delete RE Requiem from Settings > Storage > Games and Apps, then redownload from your library or reinstall from disc. A corrupted installation is a common cause of CE-108255-1 on launch day.
CE-100005-6: Corrupted Data / Cannot Start Game
This error means the game data on your SSD is corrupted. It typically occurs after a failed download, interrupted update, or power loss during installation.
Fixes
- Delete and reinstall. This is the most reliable fix. Go to Settings > Storage > Games and Apps, delete RE Requiem, and redownload. Make sure you have a stable internet connection and do not put the console into Rest Mode during installation.
- Check your SSD health. If CE-100005-6 occurs across multiple games, your PS5’s internal SSD may be failing. Contact Sony Support for a hardware check if the problem persists after reinstalling.
- Restore licenses. Go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses. This fixes ownership verification issues that can masquerade as corrupted data.
CE-107857-8: Network Connection Error
This error occurs when the game cannot connect to Capcom’s servers. While RE Requiem is a single-player game, it may require an online check for features like leaderboards, updates, or DLC verification.
Fixes
- Test your internet connection. Go to Settings > Network > Test Internet Connection. Ensure both the internet and PSN connections succeed.
- Switch to a wired connection. If you are on Wi-Fi, plug in an Ethernet cable for a more stable connection. For network optimization tips, see our guide to fixing high ping.
- Change DNS servers. Go to Settings > Network > Settings > Set Up Internet Connection. Select your connection, press Options, select Advanced Settings, and set DNS to Google (8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4) or Cloudflare (1.1.1.1 / 1.0.0.1).
- Check PSN status. Visit the PlayStation Network Status page to confirm PSN is not experiencing an outage. Launch-day server overload is common.
NW-102216-2: PSN Sign-In Failed
This error prevents you from signing into PlayStation Network. Without PSN access, some game features may be locked.
Fixes
- Wait and retry. NW-102216-2 is almost always a server-side issue on Sony’s end. During major game launches, PSN can experience heavy load. Wait 15-30 minutes and try again.
- Sign out and sign back in. Go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Sign Out, then sign back in with your credentials.
- Check your router. Restart your router by unplugging it for 30 seconds. Some routers block PSN traffic after firmware updates.
- Disable VPN or proxy. If you use a VPN on your network, disable it. PSN blocks many VPN IP addresses.
Game Freezes During Cutscenes
If RE Requiem freezes during specific cutscenes but gameplay works fine, this is likely a streaming issue where the game cannot load video data fast enough.
Fixes
- Make sure the game is fully installed. Some PS5 games allow you to start playing before the full installation completes. Check the download status in your library — if it says “Copying…” or shows a progress bar, wait for it to finish.
- Disable HDR. Go to Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output > HDR and set it to Off. Some HDR implementations cause rendering hitches during pre-rendered cutscenes.
- Turn off 120 Hz output. Go to Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output > Enable 120 Hz Output and set it to Off. Some TVs have compatibility issues with 120 Hz that cause freezes during mode switches.
Disc Read Errors (Physical Copy)
If you have the physical disc version and the game will not install or read the disc:
- Clean the disc with a soft, lint-free cloth. Wipe from the center outward, not in circles.
- Check the disc for scratches or damage. Deep scratches may prevent reading.
- Try inserting the disc with the PS5 powered off, then turn the console on.
- If the problem persists with only this disc, exchange it at your retailer for a replacement.
When All Else Fails
- Safe Mode Option 6: Reset PS5 (Reinstall System Software). This is a last resort that wipes everything and reinstalls the PS5 OS. Only do this if crashes affect multiple games and nothing else works. Back up your saves to PS Plus cloud storage first.
- Contact PlayStation Support. If you suspect a hardware issue (crashes across all games, graphical artifacts, disc drive noise), visit PlayStation Support to arrange a repair or replacement under warranty.
- Report to Capcom. File a bug report at Capcom Support with your error code, game version, and PS5 firmware version. Day-one bugs are usually patched within the first two weeks.
